Match reports 17th August

Published on Saturday, 24 August 2019

Hitchin and Ickleford played out a nail biting finish as the town team beat their near village rivals by just one run on Saturday.

Winning the toss and batting first Hitchin posted 254 for 4 in their 50 overs. This was thanks largely to an unbroken 5th wicket partnership of 126 between S.Khalid 118 not out and G.Jandu 79 not out.

The pick of the Ickleford bowlers were Axel Morris 3 for 46 in his 10 overs and Luke Marsden, whilst not taking a wicket, conceding just a miserly 18 off his 10.

In reply Ickleford kept up with the rate with Stephen Money 33 and Matt Baxter 56 laying the foundations. Then a sixth wicket partnership of 84 between Jack Good 64 and Ben Mason 37 not out took Ickleford to the brink. 12 were needed from the last over and 10 from the last 3 balls. Axel hit the 4th ball for 2 and the fifth for 4 but could only manage 2 off the last ball leaving Ickleford 2 short of victory on 253 for 8 in what was the most exciting finish.

For Hitchin D.Fair bowled his 10 overs 2 for 33 and S.Khalid 2 for 67 in his bowling the death overs.

Next week Ickleford host Harpenden 2nd X1 and Hitchin travel to Langleybury.

Ickleford 2s secured a vital win against Frogmore despite being bowled out for just 103.

Ickleford chose to bat first & were soon in trouble at 2-2. Tom Willoughby & George Crouch made 25 each to rebuild the innings. Once they were out, Ickleford again struggled and were bowled out in just 34 overs.

A quick turnaround meant Frogmore were batting before tea.

Early wickets for Michael Day & Thomas Brown along with the aggressive approach from the visitors meant they were 50 for 5 off just 9 overs.

From there, Ickleford were firm favourites & Frogmore made just 87,  Day finishing with 4-32 & Brown 3-15.

Ickleford 3s lost to Bentley Heath 2s by 4 wickets in a low scoring game at Holwell. Losing the toss, Ickleford batted on a slow pitch and the openers Howard and Last put on 55 for the 1st wicket, Last top scoring with 34.

No one really kicked on and only Pursey (28) and Brockett (23) applied themselves and the team was bowled out for 136. In reply, Ickleford were much improved in the field with Webb's impressive 3-3 off 9 overs and 7 maidens. Holmes, Gray and Howard shared the other wickets as the visitors were made to work hard for their runs. Opener Medway dropped anchor with 29 no and the total was reached for the loss of 6 wickets in 38 overs.
